Without a doubt my favorite dessert is banana puddin'! I only make banana puddin' when there is a crowd, so I don't torture myself with this yummy goodness. I once made it for my hubby when we were first married because he claimed he loved it just as much as me - false! He ate a bowl full and he was done. Me on the other hand, I walked back and forth to the kitchen getting a bowl full every hour until I finally ate the entire pan to put myself out of my misery! So, I only make it when there is a crowd!

When we were young, my granny made hot banana puddin' and if you're from the South, you know about it. It’s one of those nostalgic things that brings back childhood memories. Hot banana puddin’ may remind you a bit of bananas foster. The recipe is extremely simple: layer the bottom of the pan with bananas, then a layer of vanilla wafers and keep layering until your pan is full. I like more cookies (vanilla wafers) than bananas, but that's just me! Next, in a heavy bottom pot, pour in a can of evaporated milk and 1/2 cup of sugar and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Once dissolved, remove from heat and add two teaspoons of vanilla and stir to combine. You'll then pour the liquid mixture over the cookies and bananas and place in a preheated 350-degree oven until most but not all of the liquid is soaked into the pudding. Some people add their own touch to the recipe by topping it with meringue, but we never did.

When I started Sweeties', I made hot banana puddin' for a customer and I realized that not everyone knew about the hot puddin' or appreciated it. I thought it would have to be removed from our menu, but I researched and tested cold banana puddin' recipes until I came up with my own special recipe. I will admit that I now love cold, creamy banana puddin' as much as the hot one! I guess for me hot or cold, same day or day old - banana puddin' will always be my favorite!
